Our Fire Suppression Inspection Process

Boss Fire Protection feels that our clients understanding of the functioning of the system is as important as the system functioning properly during a fire. Our technicians are trained to walk the client through the steps that are being taken and educate them on how the system works and the importance of communication between services of specific items. All inspections are performed in accordance with NFPA 10, 96, and 17A standards.

NFPA 10 7.3.2 annual external maintenance of all fire extinguishers

Physical Condition. An annual external visual examination of all fire extinguishers shall be made to detect any physical damage, corrosion, or nozzle blockage to verify the operating instructions are present, legible and facing forward, and the HMIS information is present and legible, and to determine if a 6-year interval examination or hydro static test is due.

NFPA 10 7.3.2.5 Corrective Action

When an external examination of any fire extinguisher reveals a deficiency, immediate corrective action shall be taken.

NFPA 17A

NFPA 17A 7.3.3 Maintenance

At least semiannually and after any system activation, maintenance shall be conducted with the manufacturers design, installation and maintenance manual.

NFPA 17A 7.3.4 Maintenance

Fixed temperature-sensing elements of the fusible metal alloy type shall be replaced at least semiannually from the date of installation or more frequent, if necessary, and shall be destroyed when removed.

7.3.4.1

The year of Manufacture and the date of installation of fixed temperature sensing elements shall be marked on the system inspection tag, and the tag shall be signed or initialed by the installer.

NFPA 17A 7.5.1 Hydrostatic Testing

The following parts of wet chemical extinguisher systems shall be subjected to a hydrostatic pressure test at intervals not to exceed 12 years:
  • Wet chemical containers
  • Auxiliary pressure container
  • Hose assemblies

NFPA 96

NFPA 96 10.4.1 Fuel and Electric power shutoff

Upon activation of any fire extinguisher system for a cooking operation, all sources of fuel and electric power that produce heat to all equipment required protection by that system shall automatically shut off.
